Your Impact on Nigerian Christians
/On February 28th Randy Matthews, a missionary Shoreline supports, brought an update from the Nigerian churches he works with and an opportunity to serve them.
Nigeria has less infrastructure to deal with the economic impacts of COVID-19 and Christians there face additional pressures from persecution by Fulani herdsmen. The Nigerian leaders that Randy works with have expressed great needs for food and other necessities among widows and orphans under the care of local churches.
And Shoreline stepped up to the opportunity, putting into practice the kind of radical generosity that the book of Acts and the early church modeled for us. Shoreline’s gifts have helped widows and orphans by providing necessities such as food, seeds for crops, animals, and farm equipment.
You can read an initial report here. Additionally, Randy’s partners have sent several images to go along with the report:
Shoreline, this is what was modeled for us by our first brothers and sisters in Jerusalem:
42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Acts 2:42-47
Let’s continue in prayer that:
These gifts will bear fruit in ways we cannot yet expect, both physically and spiritually.
Local church families in Nigeria would feel love and connection with their brothers and sisters in Christ internationally, even though we’ve never met.
The same for Shoreline - that we would feel a kinship with the global Body of Christ.
The Church in Nigeria would find new opportunities to declare the gospel with boldness and much fruitfulness in the midst of their hardship.
For an end of the COVID-19 pandemic that brought these difficulties.
For an end of Fulani persecution towards Christians in Nigeria, and for their conversion to Christ.
