Is heaven real?

How can we know?

And how can we make sure we go to the good place?

In every generation people ask those same questions. We can't help ourselves: Stories hook us. We always want to know, "What comes next?" And the most important story of all... "What's the next chapter in my life? Is there even a next chapter in my life?"

Lot's of people have suggested lot's of answers throughout the ages.

But how can we know?

The Bible claims to give an answer to the question about heaven.
And it seeks to give us evidence.

The Bible Gives an Answer About Heaven

The Bible tells us: Heaven is real.

But it tells us so much more than that. It tells us what Heaven is like and how we can get there.

First, it shows us what heaven is like:

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away."
Revelation 21:1–4

What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him.
1 Corinthians 2:9

Heaven is a world of love, where God dwells endlessly with his children in glory and delight.

And second, it shows us how to get there. You may have noticed that the Bible’s picture of heaven has a lot to do with God. It’s not the boring “lounge in the clouds” you see pictured in popular media. The Bible shows us that God is vitally involved in his people’s lives in heaven.

Heaven isn’t just gifts. It’s life with the Giver of the gifts!

Which is why the Bible tells us that the way to heaven is through the good news of reconciliation:

We are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
2 Corinthians 5:20

We are all born separated from God and need to be reconciled to him. That’s how we can live with God in heaven forever. But that’s not something we can do all on our own. The reconciliation we need must come from God… and that’s just what he did:

In Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.
2 Corinthians 5:19

The wonderful news of the Bible is that it’s not up to us! God is the one who made reconciliation possible and opens up the gates to heaven!

The Bible Gives Us Evidence

The Bible’s message hangs entirely on one historical fact: The resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday.

If his tomb is truly empty, then this reconciliation has truly been made and an afterlife of joy with God in heaven is truly possible.

But what if you believe the resurrection is just a myth? For an answer to that, check out our page about the gospel and make sure you look at the section, “But Is It True?” We hope and pray you’ll come to find a confidence in Christ that leads you to seek his reconciliation.
